Sketches are typically created as preliminary drawings in order to prepare for a more finished work of art. Sketches are typically created with quick marks and are usually lacking some of the details that a finished drawing may have.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:
 LO1:
 All the students should know that what is the difference between sketching
and drawing.
 LO2:
 All the students should know about the materials used, what it means, how it
is created, what ideas are required for sketching and drawing specifically.
 LO3:
 Students should know about the tools and techniques that they are going to
use according to oblique and isometric drawings.
 LO4:
 Students should know about how to make different free hand lines, sketches
and isometric drawings.

WHY WE NEED TO SKETCH?
Freehand sketching is very important skill in design and technology.
It is very useful for getting your thoughts down on paper quickly.
You can develop and communicate your ideas far more easily with
sketches than with words.

PENCIL GRADES
The pencil is the most common piece of drawing equipment.
Pencils are available in different grades ranging from the very hard
9H to the extremely soft 9B.
2B to 2H grade pencils are the most suitable for our work.

Please Try some different pencils to learn the difference.
 Draw some lines or try to sketch by using different pencils.

FREE HAND SKETCHING:
 Draw a series of horizontal lines and aim to keep them as straight as possible without
using a ruler.
 Try to use your whole arm and not just your wrist.
 Hold the pencil lightly but move quickly and freely.
 Do about 20 lines, and then try 20 vertical lines.

OBLIQUE DRAWING:
1) Practise by drawing a few simple oblique boxes.
2) The Oblique lines are drawn at 45 degrees to the horizontal line.
3) Present your name in oblique as shown below.

ISOMETRIC DRAWING:
Isometric Drawing is useful when sketching.
It is best imagined as the object being turn until the horizontal lines
appear at 30 degrees. This shows more detail on the top of the
object.

Isometric Grid paper is one way of producing easy isometric
sketches.
Using grid paper, start off drawing a basic isometric cube, then try
and create some different, then more eccentric shapes
